This tile calculator is the rapid and effortless way to get the results that how many tiles do you need to get the job done. Whether it is for wall or floor ,large or small places it is quick and easy way to determine the cost and help you stay within your budget.

How to calculate tiles needed for floor or wall?

Calculate Area:

To find how many tiles you need. The first step is to find out the area of the wall or floor on which you want to install the tiles. You can use a measuring tape to measure the area. Make sure you measure area in common unit such as foot, meter, inches, yards, millimeters or centimeters. All of these units are supported by our calculator.

Formula of area = Length x Width.

Formula of area is Length x Width. Remember that both measurements should be in the same units. In case you need help with calculating the area, please check out our square feet calculator.

MEASUREMENT OF THE AREA:

At first, you should measure the area with the measuring tape where you need to install the tiles.

  1. For the floor, measure the length of one side of the room and then measure the width of another side of the room.
  2. For the wall, measure the height of the wall up to down and width of the wall from right to left.
  3. Add an important part of the calculation – the size of the gap you want between the tiles.

CALCULATE THE MEASUREMENTS:

Multiply the length and width measurements to obtain the result, which will give you the total square feet of the wall or floor areas,
e.g. if the floor-length is 14ft and width 10ft, multiply 14 by 10 so, your calculation will be 140 ft2. Repeat the process for each wall or floor area where you want to install the tiles and then add all of the sum together.

Windows and doors area should be eliminated while taking measurements.

Calculate Area of a Tile:

You also need the measurements for a tile that you are going to use in your project. Consider the same guidelines as mentioned above to calculate the area of a wall or floor. Make sure that the length and width are in the same unit.

It is necessary to know the size of the tile before installing the tile on the required area. If we take the size of the tile in feet just multiply the length by width e.g.1ft.1ft.=1ft2

We took the size of tile for an example, you can change it according to your desire.

Gap size 0.25mm

Length of the area 14ft, width of area 10ft =140ft2.So, we need exact 140 tiles and include 5% wastage. Then, we need 147 tiles to install on the required place.

Tiles with the same length and width are the most demanding, accessible and uncomplicated to install but the tiles with other shapes like rectangular, parallelogram and unique style shapes also exist, despite that installation is not as easy.

Size of the Gap:

Floor or wall tiles are typically installed with gaps between the tiles because the tiles look quite similar but they are not in regular shape and size and cannot be filled properly if installed without any gap. These gaps are commonly filled with grout. Typically the size of the gap is half of an inch.

What is grout?

Grout is a cement based mixture. It is used to fill the gap between tiles and bind the tiles together. It is necessary that when calculating required tiles, you should also account for the area that will be occupied by grout mixture. Our tile calculator, accounts for the area of grout as well.

Wastage of Tiles:

It's important to buy more tiles than you need to cover the area.Because the tiles can be waste in cutting factor, can be break and probably it run out of the stock during your mid project.

Workout the boxes of tiles:

Tiles usually come in boxes and the amount is labelled on the box.divide the total square meterage of the room by the total square meterage of the tile.for example, if the room is 140 square metres and each box has 10 square metres tile inside the box. Then, you will need 14 boxes.
